Admission Requirements

Applicants to the MT Program, apply through and are admitted under the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies, University of Toronto.  Applicants do not apply through OUAC for this program.  Applicants must have the equivalent of an appropriate bachelor's degree with standing equivalent to a University of Toronto mid-B or better in the final year.  Refer to the OISE/UT Graduate Bulletin for further information and application procedures. In addition, applicants are requested to list, in chart form, the extent of their experience working with children.

A statement of intent is part of the MT Program application process; in this statement, applicants should describe three significant teaching and/or teaching-related experiences they have had, especially with groups of children.  With reference to these experiences, applicants should identify insights gained about teaching and learning and explain how, based on these insights, they might contribute to the education of students in today's schools.  In addition, applicants are requested to list, in chart form, the extent of their experience working with children.  The chart should include dates, locations of experience, role and number of hours working with students.

OISE seeks to offer an innovative and challenging teacher education program combined with graduate studies.  We wish to attract applicants with sound academic backgrounds who have some education-related experiences.  As this is a teaching certification program, you should not apply if you have teaching qualifications in Canada. (i.e. OCT certification, Bachelors of Education)

In keeping with the Policies and Principles for Admission to the University of Toronto, OISE is dedicated to admitting qualified candidates who reflect the ethnic, cultural and social diversity of Toronto's Schools.  Applications are encouraged from visible minorities, differently-abled persons, women in non-traditional subject areas, males interested in primary school teaching, Aboriginal persons and native speakers of French.
