Program Concentrations

Applicants who apply to the program must indicate in which concentration they would like to be enrolled.

  

Intermediate and Senior Concentration(I/S)

Applicants who apply to this concentration will be eligible to teach children from grades 7 to 12.  

Please note that you must select two teaching subjects from the following site.  This is a program with small and personal class sizes.  Unlike the B.Ed. in the MT Program there are only four teaching subjects at the Intermediate/Senior level.  Please ensure that you do have the required number of courses in the subjects listed below prior to applying to this division.

Prerequisites

Five full-year university courses in the first teaching subject and two full-year courses in the second teaching subject. In the case of CTL7023Y: Science - Biology, five full-year university courses in Science with a minimum of four full-year in the area of Biology, are required regardless of whether it is the first or second teaching subject.

 

Intermediate/Senior Teaching Subjects & Prerequisites

Science - Biology

Five full-year university courses in Science with a minimum of four full-year courses in the area of Biology, are required regardless of whether it is the first or second teaching subject.

  • Biochemistry is accepted as Biology
  • Courses in Botany, Zoology, and life sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Immunology, and Genetics are accepted as Biology.
  • Psychology courses are not accepted towards this prerequisite.

 

English
 
Five full-year university courses in English if this is your first choice or two full-year university courses if it is your second choice of teaching subject.
 
History

Five full-year university courses in History if this is your first choice of teaching subject or two full-year university courses if it is your second choice of teaching subject.

  • Up to 1 full-year course in Political Science, Philosophy, or subject-specific history such as Art History or Music History, may be counted towards this prerequisite.

 

Mathematics

Five full-year university courses in Mathematics if this is your first choice or two full-year university courses if is your second choice of teaching subject.

  • Up to 1 full-year course in Statistics may be counted towards this prerequisite.

 


 
 

Junior and Intermediate Concentration (J/I)

Applicants who apply to this concentration will be eligible to teach children from grades 4 to 10. Please note that you can only select one from the following list

Five full-year university courses in French as well as written and spoken proficiency demonstrated through tests administered at the time of admission. Refer to the OISE Proficiency Test in French & International Languages (OPTFIL) for detailed information about the test.
 
Geography
 
Three full-year university courses in Geography
 
Health and Physical Education
No prerequisites required
History

Three full-year university courses in History

  • up to one full-year course in Political Science, Philosophy, or subject-specific history such as Art History or Music History, may be counted towards this prerequisite.

 

Mathematics
 
Three full-year university courses in Mathematics
 
  • up to one full-year course in statistics may be counted towards this prerequisite.
 
Music - Instrumental
 
Three full-year university courses in Instrumental Music. Consideration will be given to equivalent field experience and/or related post-secondary education.
 

Music - Vocal

Three full-year university courses in Vocal Music. Consideration will be given to equivalent field experience and/or related post-secondary education.

Science-General

Three full-year university courses in Science.

  • Psychology Courses are not accepted towards this prerequisite.

 

Visual Arts
 
Three full-year university courses in Visual Arts. Candidates must have studio-oriented experience. Consideration will be given to equivalent field experience and/or related post-secondary education.
 
  • Up to 1 full-year course in art history may be accepted towards this prerequisite. 
 

 

Primary and Junior Concentration (P/J)

 
Applicants who apply to this concentration will be eligible to teach children from junior kindergarten to grade 6.
