Executive Committee

Mandate

The Executive Committee is the agenda-setting committee of the Faculty Council. It receives submissions from Standing Committees as well as individual members of Council. The Committee assists the Chair of Council in preparing the agenda by reviewing submissions to ensure they are of sufficient clarity and supported by all required background information to allow informed debate and decision making by Council members.

Summer Authority

For the period between the last Council meeting of one academic year and the first meeting of the next academic year, the Executive Committee, in exceptional circumstances, has authority to act on behalf of the full Council. The Executive Committee will provide the Council will a complete report of all decisions made during this period at the next scheduled meeting.

Membership

Executive Committee members are elected from the membership of the Faculty Council. The elected membership includes the Chair and Vice-Chair of Faculty Council, the Chairs of the seven Standing Committees, four faculty members, two instructors, one Initial Teacher Education student, one Graduate Student and one Staff member. In addition, the Dean (or designate), and the Secretary of Faculty Council are Ex-Officio members.

Meetings

The Committee normally meets four times a year, or at the call of the Chair. The scheduled meetings for the 2009-2010 academic year are: October 19, November 30, February 8, and April 5.

Records

The records of the Executive Committee meetings are maintained by the Faculty Council Secretary and are not publicly available.
