Graduate Education

 

Mandate

The role of the Graduate Education Committee is to safeguard the standards and quality of the graduate programs with regard to admissions, awards, financial aid, and curriculum and evaluation in the following areas:

ADMISSIONS
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council for major changes in admissions regulations and policies
-receives information concerning minor changes in admissions regulations and policies
 AWARDS
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on the terms and conditions of new awards and award policies
-receives information on minor changes to terms and conditions of awards and award policies
-receives information on changes to the terms and conditions of student financial and award policies
CURRICULUM & EVALUATION
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on major changes and new program initiatives in the goals and objectives of the programs, courses of study, content, grading and evaluation systems and requirements for graduation of each program
-reviews and approves minor program changes
-receives information on minor changes to courses

Membership

Committee membership consists of a Chair, elected from among the members, ten faculty (two per department) formally involved graduate programs, six graduate students (one per department plus one from Initial Teacher Education masters programs), two staff. The Dean (or designate), the Registrar (or designate), one staff from the Associate Dean, Research & Graduate Studies Office, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies (or designate), and the Director of OISE Student Services are all ex-officio members.

Meetings

The Committee normally meets four times each academic year, or at the call of the Chair. Scheduled meetings for the academic year 2010-2011: September 17, November 5, January 14 and March 4

Records

The records of the Graduate Education Standing Committee are maintained by the Committee and are archived with the Faculty Council Secretary. All records are publicly available.
