Initial Teacher Education

 

Mandate

ADMISSIONS
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on policies governing admissions to the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and graduate programs
AWARDS
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on all matters related to student awards and financial support of students in the ITE and graduate programs
PROGRAMS
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on academic policy and programs offered by graduate and ITE programs
--reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on all course and program changes
-approves new courses and reports them to Faculty Council for information
-reviews and makes recommendations to Faculty Council on new programs

Membership

Committee membership consists of a Chair elected from among the members, six faculty formally involved in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), four instructors formally involved in ITE, five ITE students (two each from the elementary and secondary programs and one from Technological Studies), two staff involved in ITE. The Dean (or designate), the Registrar (or designate), five ITE program directors, the Director of Continuing Education, and the Director of Student Services are all ex-officio members.

Meetings

The Committee normally meets four times a year, or at the call of the Chair. The scheduled meetings for the 2009-2010 academic year are: October 7, November 18, January 20, and March 24.

Records

The records of the Initial Teacher Education Committee meetings are maintained by the Committee and are archived with the Faculty Council Secretary. Meeting records are publicly available.
