Standing Committees of Faculty Council
Faculty Council determines the number, composition and authority of the committees of Council. The Council may delegate authority over divisional academic policies to its Standing Committees. Decisions of the Committees of Council must be reported to the Council, either as items of information for minor items, or as recommendations on major changes for the approval of the Council.

Selection of Non-Elected members
The process for the selection of non-elected members on Standing Committees of Council is defined in the Terms of Reference of the By-Laws, Nominations & Elections Committee.
Terms of Membership
Terms of membership for all Standing Committee is two years, renewable. Members may be elected for successive terms.
Ex-officio Members
The Dean is, ex officio, a member of all Standing Committees. All ex officio members of all committees and sub-committees are voting members unless specified as non-voting in the By-laws.
Election of Standing Committee Chairs
Chairs of Standing Committees (excepting the Executive Committee) are elected by voting members fo committees at the beginning of each governance session. When the position of Chair becomes vacant during a session, a new Chair shall be elected.
Filling Membership Vacancies
When a vacancy occurs during the session among the members of a Standing Committee, the Committee Chair, in consultation with the Chair of Council, shall appoint a replacement for the remainder of the session.
Quorum
Unless otherwise stated, one-half of the voting members shall constitute a quorum for committees.
Public and Confidential Meetings
The Appeals Committee always meets in camera. The meetings of the other Standing Committees are open unless otherwise stated.
Sub-committees
Sub-committees may be created by Standing Committees on an ad hoc basis whenever a need arises. The membership of such sub-committees shall be established by the parent committee.
Records of Meetings
Records of all Standing Committees (with the exceptions of the Executive, By-Laws, Nominations & Elections, and Appeals Committees) shall be maintained by the respective Committees and archived at the end of each Faculty Council session with the Faculty Council Secretary and shall be publicly available. In the case of the Executive, By-Laws, Nominations & Elections, and Appeals Committees, records will be maintained by the Secretary of Faculty Council.
