Two Potential Models

A three-department and a four-department model are being put forward to the OISE Community for consideration. Note that the names for new departments are for illustration only. Once officially formed, the departments will decide on the names in a more collective fashion.

What do they have in common?

Both models, the "blue sky" group agreed, support the guiding principles that emerged from the planning. They also anticipate that the current Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) will remain unchanged, and that all psychology programs will come together within a Department of Applied and Developmental Psychology.

What are the differences?

The three-department model, suggests a third large department tentatively titled the Department of Social and Organizational Studies in Education that would bring together five previous units into a new program matrix that would include: Adult Education and Community Development, Educational Administration, Higher Education, History and Philosophy in Education, and Sociology and Equity Studies in Education.

The four-department model, proposes two new departments: one that brings together Educational Administration, Higher Education and Adult Education in a Department of Administration, Higher and Adult Education, and another one that will be home for Sociology and Equity Studies and History and Philosophy programs tentatively titled Department of Educational Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
