QUESTION:
How does travel shape identity and learning?
Cecilia Morgan wants to understand the meaning of education in the 19th century. Cecilia examines how 19th century middle class people traveled from Canada for both education and entertainment. To do this, she traces individual's lives to reveal the ways in which people of the 19th century adapted to new communities while maintaining their original identities. Cecilia hopes that this research will reveal that there was a larger amount of cross-cultural travel and sharing in the 19th century, both for English-Canadians and Native people, than previously thought.
To complete the study gradute students support the work by using their knowledge of Internet sources and new forms of electronic technology to research history. Ceclia appreciates her graduate students' desire to learn about the past for its own sake and also to understand the present.
