FEATURED ISSUE:
Cultural Sites as Education
FEATURED RESEARCHER:

QUESTION: How can we promote museums as an educational tool to engage students in history?
Roger Simon is a leading scholar who looks at how culture is learned. He wonders how museums serve as sites that engage students and teachers in serious discussions about the role of democracy in our society. For Roger, moving beyond using museums as sites of discovery and entertainment creates educational opportunities to challenge how we interact with our pasts. By promoting museums as a place where we can actively engage with culture and history Roger hopes to improve our ability to use historical events to understand current situations.
Roger feels very privileged to have the opportunity to work with graduate students on his projects and on their explorations. He feels that graduate students help him articulate his interests and have conversations that mutually benefit each other's research interests.
