Professor Jeanne Watson
The Associate Dean, Programs portfolio focuses on maximizing the educational impact of OISE’s academic programs, and is supported by two Academic Directors, one for Initial Teacher Education and one for Graduate Education who work closely with Associate Dean, Programs focused in particular on the alignment of the Initial Teacher Education and graduate programs, and the integration of the goals of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education's (OISE's) new strategic plan, and forthcoming academic plan.
Professor Jeanne Watson completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg followed by her Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology at York University. Appointed at OISE in 1996, Jeanne has established a record as an accomplished scholar and an outstanding graduate and undergraduate teacher. Her research interests, which have been supported by SSHRC, include the process and outcome of psychotherapy and the theory and practice of person-centered and experiential psychotherapy. She has published extensively in these areas including coauthoring seven books and developing a number of process measures to examine clients’ and therapists’ contributions to successful outcomes in psychotherapy. In 2002 she received the Outstanding Early Achievement Award from the International Society for Psychotherapy Research. A registered psychologist, she is one of the leading researchers and exponents of emotion focused psychotherapy, giving workshops in the United Kingdom, Europe and Canada. She has served as co-editor of the journal Person-centered and Experiential Psychotherapies, and serves on the advisory boards of several other journals. With an impressive record of service within the University (e.g. Program Coordinator, representative to the School of Graduate Studies, etc.).
