OISE students, alumni raise $4,500 for Japan earthquake and tsunami relief
April 11, 2011
Kristin Kobayashi, a Japanese Canadian who was in Tokyo at the time of the earthquake, recently joined distinguished speakers from the Japanese Consulate and the Canadian Red Cross to celebrate the relief efforts of students, staff, and alumni from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and Woodsworth College. Jeff Myers, president of the OISE Graduate Students Association, shared his enthusiasm for the success of the event: “It went extremely well, with just over $4000 raised!” The proceeds of this relief effort will be split between the Canadian Red Cross and Ashniaga, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that helps orphaned children access higher education.
The event featured arts-based performances and a silent auction. It was held in Kruger Hall in Woodsworth College at the University of Toronto.
