Her research focused on the discursive development of the ecology of languages paradigm and its implications for language planning and policy in an age of globalization. In the Canadian context, she looked at how teachers' additive and subtractive attitudes to language instruction affect multilingual learners' literacy development. About William Pakenham William Pakenham, the first dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto (1907-1934) was a remarkable man and a leader in education. Through the bequest he created for the University of Toronto, he left a legacy of learning that continues to impact students today. The funds from his estate established the William Pakenham Fellowship. This award has provided financial support for students for more than 65 years, helping brilliant students like Gail Prasad, one of many William Pakenham Fellowship recipients.
