Supporting Initial Teacher Candidates

Scholarships send a powerful message of inspiration and support to students in our Initial Teacher Education Program.

In 2008, Lauren Kurshner, Nanci Henderson and Catherine Wachter were all recipients of the Vari Scholarships. This award was established through the very generous support of the Honourable George and Helen Vari. For the Varis "education has always been central to our philanthroupic activites. Good education and discipline are the key to success."

"The Vari Scholarship allowed me to pursue my studies with total commitment. I gained one year of freedom to devote myself intellectually, professionally and creatively to the study and practice of education. I hope to bring this freedom into the classroom." Lauren Kurshner

IT Candidate
"The scholorship allowed me to attend OISE and get to know the educational climate of Toronto. I was able to get to know more teachers and make connections in and out of the TDSB. With the money from the award, I was able to live close to school." Grace Hutton

IT Candidate
"What I most value about the award/scholarship I received is having the opportunity to really focus on my schooling without having to worry about finances. It has allowed me to put all my effort into discovering my teaching identity and I am so very grateful for this chance." Catherine Wachter
