Congratulations OISE ITE grads convocating on June 17
OISE proudly celebrates Initial Teacher Education graduates convocating Wednesday June 17. Ceremonies happen at Convocation Hall at 10:00 am (BEd P/J & J/I), and 2:30 pm (BEd I/S/Tech, Dip Tech). Honorary graduand Keren Brathwaite, influential UofT leader and highly regarded educational expert whose writing has contributed significantly to theories of access, equity, anti-racism and parent involvement in education will address afternoon convocation. Now more family and friends can celebrate via live webcast.

Award for modelling feminist scholarship and equity
Tara Goldstein has won the Canadian Association for the Study of Women and Education Carol Crealock Award for her contributions to mentoring young scholars, building feminist communities and dedication to making a difference in relation to social justice in education. The award honours a scholar who provides an exemplary model for equity and feminist scholarship and leadership in Canada. Professor Goldstein accepted the award on May 25 at the CSSE conference in Ottawa.
Research prize to boost math and science education in the U.S.
Indigo Esmonde has been awarded one of two coveted Research Fellowships by the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation, a national organization dedicated to advocating for improving the quality of high school science and mathematics teaching. Faculty member appointed to new senior administrative role in SGS
Elizabeth Smyth has been appointed as the new Vice-Dean, Programs in the School of Graduate Studies for a five-year term beginning July 1. Professor Smyth has held a range of important leadership positions within OISE and the University of Toronto, and will contribute enormous knowledge and experience in her new role at the School of Graduate Studies.
TPS graduate Laura Pinto receives GG Gold Medal
Laura Pinto, who graduated on June 4 with a PhD from the Department of Theory and Policy Studies and is currently an instructor in the ITE program in the Department of Adult Education & Counselling Psychology, has received a Governor General's Gold Medal, bestowed in a ceremony on June 2. Since its inception in 1873 the Gold Medal has become one of the most prestigious awards that students at Canadian institutions may receive, given annually to a student with the highest academic standing at the graduate level.
