OISE tops Teacher Education programs ranking for sustainability
OISE has been ranked Canada's top school for Teacher Education, according to Corporate Knights magazine. The sixth annual Knight Schools Survey, which includes Teacher Education programs for the first time, analyzes how Canadian universities fare in integrating sustainability into the school experience. Congratulations OISE ITE grads
OISE celebrated Initial Teacher Education graduates who convocated on June 17. Ceremonies were held at Convocation Hall in the morning, where Carol Rolheiser, former Associate Dean, Teacher Education, addressed the graduates, and continued in the afternoon where honorary graduand Keren Brathwaite, influential UofT leader and highly regarded educational expert, spoke to the graduates. Ceremonies were webcast live and will soon be archived and available on the convocation website.
Major report provides blueprint for Ontario early-learning policy
The province is set to implement full-day learning for four- and five-year-olds beginning in 2010, based on key recommendations in Charles Pascal's major report, With Our Best Future in Mind: Implementing Early Learning in Ontario. Dr Pascal, a faculty member in Theory and Policy Studies is Special Advisor on Early Learning to the Premier. Award for modelling feminist scholarship and equity
Tara Goldstein has won the Canadian Association for the Study of Women and Education Carol Crealock Award for her contributions to mentoring young scholars, building feminist communities and dedication to making a difference in relation to social justice in education. The award honours a scholar who provides an exemplary model for equity and feminist scholarship and leadership in Canada. Professor Goldstein accepted the award on May 25 at the CSSE conference in Ottawa.
Research prize to boost math and science education in the U.S.
Indigo Esmonde has been awarded one of two coveted Research Fellowships by the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation, a national organization dedicated to advocating for improving the quality of high school science and mathematics teaching. Dr Esmonde's research will focus on presenting educators with the understanding and skills to teach mathematics for social justice...More

Faculty member appointed to new senior administrative role in SGS
Elizabeth Smyth has been appointed as the new Vice-Dean, Programs in the School of Graduate Studies for a five-year term beginning July 1. Professor Smyth has held a range of important leadership positions within OISE and the University of Toronto, and will contribute enormous knowledge and experience in her new role at the School of Graduate Studies.
TPS graduate Laura Pinto receives GG Gold Medal
Laura Pinto, who graduated on June 4 with a PhD from the Department of Theory and Policy Studies and is currently an instructor in the ITE program in the Department of Adult Education & Counselling Psychology, has received a Governor General's Gold Medal, bestowed in a ceremony on June 2. Since its inception in 1873 the Gold Medal has become one of the most prestigious awards that students at Canadian institutions may receive, given annually to a student with the highest academic standing at the graduate level.
