Open Access Week: What is it, and why does it matter?
October 19-23 is Open Access Week at U of T, and OISE events are on the program. First up on Oct 19 - OISE MA candidate Stian Haklev presents Innovative Projects in the Publishing of Open Educational Resources, a look at case studies from around the world, and the incentives and potential benefits of open sharing. On Oct 22,  John Willinsky of Stanford University presents Open Access to Research is Coming: What is to be done?. Scholarly literature is published freely online in increasing amounts each year, posing new challenges and opportunties for the future of learning. His presentation features Open Access policy mandates used at Harvard, Stanford, MIT and Kansas as examples of what's being done and why it matters...More


Congratulations OISE grads convocating November 11
Yunmei Xu graduates with a PhD in Developmental Psychology in Education. OISE proudly celebrates PhD, EdD, MA, MEd, MT, MAT, BEd, Diploma in Technological Education and Certificate in Leadership in Higher Education grads. Rhonda Love, TYP Program Director, will speak at the ceremonies at Convocation Hall on Wednesday, November 11, at 6:00 pm. A reception co-hosted by the Alumni Association follows. Now more people can see you graduate via UofT live webcast.

RWB Jackson Lecture focus on early learning recommendations
OISE presents Early Learning in Ontario: A conversation on the implementation of Charles Pascal's recent report to the Premier of Ontario on November 18. Moderated by the Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education and introduced by Charles Pascal, Special Advisor to the Premier of Ontario, the lecture features a discussion with Professors George Dei, Ben Levin and Janette Pelletier, and OISE PhD student Kimberly Bezaire. Continuing Education staff bring home Stepping UP group award
Patrick O'Donnell, Frank Andricciola, Sophia Cottrell, Nick Sardelis, Janice Malcolm, Regina Hui, Sandy Hadley, Karen Palma, Hema Prabhu and Julia Pan were among 183 U of T staff who were celebrated with Stepping UP Awards at a special reception at the President's house on September 17. The group was recognized for its efforts in developing efficient, cost-effective new technological processes to streamline operations, team building to build trust and strong unit cohesiveness, and student outreach activities...More

Indvidual Stepping UP Award for Improving Employee Experience
Bessie Giannikos brought home an individual Stepping UP Award for her efforts to improve the employee experience. She began her UofT career as a Trust Fund Accountant in the Central Finance office in 1998. Two years later she became Business Officer in CTL, a large, complex department, and has never looked back. She values the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff and students daily, and her experience as Acting Manager recently was a great opportunity to increase her knowledge and gain valuable new insights...More
