Focus of R.W.B. Jackson Lecture on early learning recommendations
OISE presents Early Learning in Ontario: A conversation on the implementation of Charles Pascal's recent report to the Premier of Ontario on Wednesday, November 18, 7pm at Hart House. Moderated by the Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education and introduced by Charles Pascal, Special Advisor to the Premier of Ontario, this year's lecture features a panel discussion with Professors George Dei, Ben Levin and Janette Pelletier, and OISE PhD student Kimberly Bezaire. Continuing Education staff bring home Stepping UP group award
Patrick O'Donnell, Frank Andricciola, Sophia Cottrell, Nick Sardelis, Janice Malcolm, Regina Hui, Sandy Hadley, Karen Palma, Hema Prabhu and Julia Pan were among 183 U of T staff who were celebrated with Stepping UP Awards at a special reception at the President's house on September 17. The group was recognized for its efforts in developing efficient, cost-effective new technological processes to streamline operations, team building to build trust and strong unit cohesiveness, and student outreach activities...More

Indvidual Stepping UP Award for Improving Employee Experience
Bessie Giannikos brought home an individual Stepping UP Award for her efforts to improve the employee experience. She began her UofT career as a Trust Fund Accountant in the Central Finance office in 1998. Two years later she became Business Officer in CTL, a large, complex department, and has never looked back. She values the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff and students daily, and her experience as Acting Manager recently was a great opportunity to increase her knowledge and gain valuable new insights...More

Safe Schools for ALL: Peacemaking Education Conference
Safaroz Niyozov, Jean-Paul Restoule, and Kathleen Gallagher joined other leading experts on September 26 to explore issues such as dealing with bullying, peer mediation, alternative approaches to suspension, anti-homophobia strategies and countering violence and racism in schools. Presenters from TDSB Safe Schools, Justice for Children and Youth, Community Builders, Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview, Toronto Police, school boards and education organizations across the province...More
Making the grade: Should schools be failing kids?
Elizabeth Morley, recently reappointed principal of the Institute of Child Study, participated in a panel discussion on the issue of Failing Kids on CBC Radio One's The Current (part one). The discussion focuses on practices of holding back students who haven't met the requirements and of "social promotion".
