Making the grade: Should schools be failing kids?
Elizabeth Morley, recently reappointed principal of the Institute of Child Study, participated in a panel discussion on the issue of Failing Kids on CBC Radio One's The Current (part one). The discussion focuses on practices of holding back students who haven't met the requirements and of "social promotion".


 

 

Teaching and learning social justice through math
Indigo Esmonde, a professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning and recent winner of a coveted Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Research Fellowship, uses the teaching of mathematics to help teachers and students understand world issues including those that relate to social justice.  Recently, she discussed her research on CBC Radio Canada's The Link (first part).

Alumna shines at Summer Games: Kate Ruediger picks up gold
Kate Ruediger, 2008-09 Varsity Blues team member, captured a gold medal in the women's 400m at the Canada Summer Games on August 25 in Prince Edward Island, finishing the race in a time of 54.49 seconds, 0.44 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Kate graduated in June with a Bachelor of Education in the Junior/Intermediate division...More
