Graduate Funding Package

The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto provides funding packages to full-time graduate students in the Ph.D. and non-professional MA programs.

The defining characteristics of the funding model are:

  • Fewer rules and restrictions: the model emphasizes incentives and opportunities.
  • It allows faculty members to increase student support to be competitive with other institutions.
  • It is easier for students to earn money in addition to their guaranteed funding.

Each student in the graduate funding cohort will receive a personalized information package (mailed at the beginning of June) which will confirm the composition of their funding package and provide students with the necessary processes and documentation that needs to be completed to obtain their funding. If you have not received this package by August 3, 2012, please contact us through the email address below. For those who wish to have a general understanding of how the funding works we have included the information sheets

Deadline for Applying for your Graduate Funding

Graduate student funding is designed as an income support plan. Students are expected to access funding to meet daily living and study expenses. Retroactive payments after the start of a student's academic year are strictly limited. Students can request their funding entitlements up to August 31 of the current funding year. For example, funding for the 2011/2012 academic year can be requested up to August 31, 2012.

If a student's funding includes a work component, we will make reasonable efforts to find suitable employment for late requests. However, should we be unable to find a suitable assignment, the student's funding will be reduced by the value of the equitable work assignment.
