Evaluation of Applications

• Admission to the University of Toronto's Technological Education Initial Teacher Education Programs is based on a rigorous examination of the trade qualifications, skilled wage-earning experience, academic background and English proficiency status of applicants in relation to our published requirements.
  • These admission requirements and the documentation that is required to provide acceptable evidence of satisfying these requirements is described in detail in the Technological Education Application Handbook and also in the Technological Education section of our Admissions Guide website.
     
• Technological Education applicants were also required to provide evidence of background related to teaching.  The Applicant Profile section of the Technological Education Profile was used to evaluate this requirement. These sections are read with a view to understanding the education-related experience of the applicant, and the insights derived from this experience.  As well, evidence of applicants' understanding of their responsibilities to learn about and support a diverse population of students and to address equity and social justice in their work with students and families is considered.
  • These sections of the Technological Education Profile were evaluated on the basis of a rubric developed in relation to the specific points that applicants were advised to address when completing their Profile. These are described on pages 16-18 of the OISE Technological Education Application Handbook.

• Applicants who were not able to provide acceptable documentation of all aspects of our admission requirements were refused admission.

Review Process

Great care has been taken in our application evaluation process to ensure that we have applied our criteria consistently and correctly. As a result of the large number of applications we received this year we have many more applicants than we are able to accept. Nevertheless, we offer a review process to allow applicants to bring to our attention information in their application which they believe we may have overlooked when we made our original evaluation.

The deadline for submission of Review Forms is Friday, April 26, 2013. The Admissions Committee will be considering all requests for review during the month of May, and we plan to have responses to applicants before the end of June, 2012. Every effort will be made to have Review Requests submitted by  Technological Education (Apprenticeship Program) applicants adjudicated prior to the mid-June program start.
