"I loved that OISE splits their students into cohorts based on what area of education you want to focus. I was particularly drawn to the Inner City Option; it was a great opportunity to focus on teaching in the areas that were most desperate for good teachers."
Natasha Valz, Primary/Junior, Inner City Option, 2008-09

"Through OISE, I was better able to understand how I, as an educator, could impact change in our youth so that they can become active members of a democratic society."

More information regarding the Consecutive B.Ed. Program can be found in the Initial/Preservice Teacher Education Calendar.
The Ontario Ministry of Education (MOE) has posted documents describing the current Ontario curriculum on its website. In considering what division to select, you may wish to consult these documents.
Note: These programs are intensive full-time day-school professional programs. There are no part-time options. Moreover, the programs are highly structured in order to timetable all required elements within the period of study. Regular attendance is mandatory
Teacher Certification
The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) is responsible for the licensing and regulation of the teaching profession in the public interest.
Graduates, who meet all requirements of the program, will be recommended to the OCT for the Ontario Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification and Registration. This qualifies the holder to apply for teaching positions in Ontario elementary or secondary schools.
All applicants, especially those who are submitting academic documents from other countries, should be aware that the Ontario College of Teachers is not obliged to accept our recommendation or our assessment of your academic background and will make its own evaluation for certification purposes, based on their criteria.
Police Record Report
To provide increased protection for elementary and secondary students in Ontario schools and to help to ensure that teachers are worthy of the trust placed in them by students, parents and colleagues, the OCT requires that all new teacher education graduates who will be applicants for OCT membership and teacher certification, provide an original Police Record Report and an Applicant’s Declaration about their suitability for registration. Further details on criminal record screening will be provided to admitted candidates and also during the course of the academic year.
If you have concerns about a Police Record Report that might prevent you from meeting this teacher certification requirement, please contact the OCT at 416-961-8800.
NOTE: School Boards require teacher candidates on practice teaching assignments in Ontario schools to complete a satisfactory criminal background screening prior to having direct contact with students. Candidates who are unable to produce a satisfactory criminal screening would not be able to complete the B.Ed. program.
