INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED TEACHERS ADMISSIONS CATEGORY

Overview

The Internationally Educated Teachers (IET) Admission Category is an option available to internationally educated teachers (who are immigrants to Canada) who wish to apply to the Consecutive Bachelor of Education Degree - General Studies Program (Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, Intermediate/Senior divisions) at the OISE.

Admission to the initial teacher education program at OISE is very competitive. As a result every year we are unable to offer admission to many qualified applicants. The IET admission category is intended to assist new Canadians who have international teaching experience to integrate into the teaching profession in Ontario. Each year, up to 15 places will be available. Applications from internationally educated teachers who apply under the IET admission category will also be automatically considered for entry into the program using the regular admissions procedure.

Who Can be Admitted Under the IET Admission Category?

To be considered under the IET Admission Category of the Consecutive B.Ed. program at OISE, you must:

  1. satisfy the minimum admission requirements for entry into the Consecutive B.Ed. program,
  2. have international teaching experience (i.e., have been teachers in their country of origin),
  3. have completed a program of study in a country other than Canada that allowed you to seek employment as a teacher in that country, and
  4. be a Canadian permanent resident or Canadian citizen.

How Do You Apply As Part of the IET Admissions Category?

IET applicants apply under normal application procedures.

By the published application deadline, all applicants to the Consecutive Bachelor of Education degree program (Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, Intermediate/Senior Divisions) must submit the following:

  1. A completed TEAS application form, to Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) with the required application and service fees attached.

NOTE: To be eligible for consideration under the IET Admissions Category you must indicate on the TEAS application that you are a Canadian permanent resident or Canadian citizen. All applicants who are offered admission will be required to submit acceptable documentation of their status in Canada.

  2. Official transcripts from all universities attended.

NOTE: To be eligible for consideration under the IET Admissions Category you must submit official transcripts that include evidence of completion of courses related to teacher education. If the courses related to teacher education did not take place in a university, then you should also submit official transcripts of these courses. If you have not completed any such courses, you must submit a statement that describes the basis on which you were allowed to teach. This statement must be accompanied by a copy of a document that demonstrates that you were considered to be a teacher in another country.

  3. A completed OISE Applicant Profile.

NOTE: To be eligible for consideration under the IET Admissions Category your Applicant Profile must include evidence of international teaching experience. At least one of the three experiences which are required in the Applicant Profile must be an international teaching experience. The Applicant Profile is submitted online. You must also submit a hard-copy document which confirms that this international teaching experience has taken place.

  4. Evidence of an acceptable level of proficiency in oral and written English as described in the OISE Teacher Education English Language Proficiency Policy.
