TEACHER CERTIFICATION

To teach in Ontario's publicly funded schools, you will need to become a member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)  and receive an Ontario teaching certificate.

If you have questions about the process, in December, as part of the Professional Preparation Conference, the OCT offers information sessions on the registration process to obtain your Ontario teaching license.

The OCT (Ontario College or Teachers) application process (in brief):

►1. You apply to the OCT on-line

2. You send the required documents to the OCT (per their instructions).

3. You arrange to have your previous degree transcript sent directly from the University you attended either by directly contacting the university or if you attended an Ontario University by using the OUAC link that is part of the OCT application.

4. You arrange to have your B.Ed. or Dipl. Tech. Ed transcript sent to the OCT after graduation/convocation. Please note that the University of Toronto does not send your transcript automatically, you must arrange to have your Teacher Education transcript sent directly to the OCT. (there are several methods (below) you may wish to use)

  • (suggested method) You may wish to use the OUAC link that is in the OCT application, be sure to select the Send Transcript option: After Degree Conferred (The Ontario College of Teachers requires that your teacher education transcript indicate that your BEd has been conferred.)
  • You may also use ROSI to order your Teacher Ed. transcript to be sent after convocation. (the after convocation option only becomes available in late March-early April)

5. The final step in OCT certification is the electronic recommendation sent by us directly to the OCT – this is an electronic file that is sent using an identifier, which is your OCT number.
This "Recommendation" also known as "Report from Faculty" will be sent upon successful completion of the program; but only if you have provided us with your OCT Number (you receive this when you apply to the OCT)

You will able to enter your OCT number on the secure Practicum (CIF) website upon log-in.  We ask that OCT numbers are entered by May 1, 2013.  For those who do not enter their OCT number on the Practicum (CIF) website by May 1st, your recommendation will be delayed until we receive your OCT number. In this case we will require a letter from you, containing your OCT number and requesting that you be recommended.
