Introduction

OISE offers a number of scholarships to persons admitted to the Consecutive B. Ed program. For some of these scholarships, an application is not required. However, there are a number of awards which require a special application to be submitted after you have received an Offer of Admission. An exception is the University of Toronto Vari Scholarship. Persons interested in this scholarship must submit an application by the December deadline for application to the Consecutive B.Ed. program.

 

 Awards That Do Not Require an Application

 

  • Borthwick-Duckworth Scholarship
    One award, to the value of the annual income of the endowment,will be made to a person admitted to the Consecutive B.Ed. program (Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, or Intermediate/Senior Division). Preference will be given to a student in financial need who has demonstrated academic ability and a liberal philosophy on social, political and religious issues. The value of this award is expected to be approximately $1,000. No specific application is required.  

  • James F. Johnson Masonic Award
    One award of $1,000 will be made to a person admitted to the Intermediate/Senior division of the Consecutive B.Ed. program, who will enroll in a Music teaching subject, and whose undergraduate degree is in music. No specific application is required.   

  • Roseann Runte Award
    One award of up to $200 will be made to a student admitted to the Consecutive B.Ed. program. Preference will be given to a female student who shows evidence of commitment to pursuing a career in education and promise as an educational leader. In addition, financial need must be demonstrated. No application is required.

Awards That Require an Application (After Admission)

Scholarship Descriptions and Applications

The application forms are available as interactive online PDFs. Once you have completed the form, you may either send or fax your completed form to the Registrar's Office (address and fax number is on the form) or e-submit the form. 

If you encounter problems using the e-submit function at the end of the form, simply save your completed form (the same way you would save any document onto your computer) and email it to iteadm@oise.utoronto.ca as an email attachment.

Note that the forms work optimally with with Adobe Acrobat Reader; you may not be able to use the e-submit function if you are using another reader. You can obtain the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader free from the Adobe website.


The deadline to submit applications was April 16, 2013.
 

M. Penelope Carter Award
(Intermediate/Senior – English)

One award of approximately $5,000 will be made by OISE to a person admitted to the Consecutive B.Ed program in the Intermediate/Senior division who will enroll in English. The recipient must have graduated from the University of Toronto with high academic standing in a Specialist or Major Program in English. The financial need of the applicant, especially as related to family responsibilities, is also considered.

Professor Arthur Louden Memorial Entrance Scholarship
in Science

(Intermediate/Senior – Sciences)
On or more awards of up to $5,000 each will be made to persons admitted to the Intermediate/Senior division of the Consecutive B.Ed program, who will enroll in Science and who have best demonstrated high academic achievement in biology or chemistry or physics and a desire to teach Science.

Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Peterson Memorial Entrance Award
(Intermediate/Senior – Sciences)

One or more awards of up to $1,000 each will be made to persons admitted to the Intermediate/Senior division of the Consecutive B.Ed. program who will enroll in Science (biology, chemistry, physics or science - general) and who best demonstrate a commitment to conservation and activities providing preparation for a career in teaching. To be eligible for this award, candidates must also have good academic standing and demonstrate financial need.

Bertha and Howard Robertson Entrance Scholarship in Primary/Junior Education
(Primary/Junior)

One award of approximately $1,000 will be made to a person admitted to the Primary/Junior division of the Consecutive B.Ed program who has best demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. The recipient must be an Ontario resident.

Jean Stirling Entrance Award
(Junior/Intermediate or Intermediate/Senior – Health & Physical Education)

One or more award will be made to students admitted to the Consecutive B.Ed program who will enroll in Health and Physical Education. Financial need must be demonstrated.

Vari Scholarship

One or more awards of $10,000 will be made to persons admitted to the Intermediate/Senior division of the Consecutive B.Ed. program. Applicants for the Vari Scholarship are expected to have good academic standing and a strong Applicant Profile. Selection is also based on a letter of reference from a professor, and performance on a competitive essay. To be eligible for the Vari Scholarship applicants must be Ontario residents and demonstrate financial need. Applications for this award must be submitted by the December application deadline.
