Jacqueline Sohn
Ph.D. Student, Educational Administration
Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Jacqueline completed her bachelor of arts in political science at the University of Toronto, and her master’s degree in education at OISE. She was employed at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, where she gained valuable experience in public policy development and program evaluation. She has extensive research experience through numerous research and graduate assistantships in the areas of political science; public policy; political psychology and education policy.
Through her work on a research project looking at education issues in post-apartheid South Africa and her involvement in various capacities with an inner-city organization for over seven years, she became interested in pursuing studies on ameliorating the impacts of poverty on low socio-economic status (SES) students’ educational experiences and outcomes.
Currently, her broad interests within the field of education policy include: macro-level factors affecting the educational outcomes of low SES children and youth; knowledge mobilization- specifically, the use of research evidence in public policy development; the ways in which the news media uses research to inform child and youth poverty reporting; and cross-sector collaborations for social welfare policies.
