Simon's research topics include place of historical memory in public culture, the relation of ethics and politics in various forms of cultural pedagogy, and the contemporary and relation of media and democracy,

Academic History

Roger I. Simon is Professor and Faculty Director of the Centre for Media and Culture in Education.His work addresses issues related to cultural pedagogy, historical memory, and social theory.

Teaching Overview

Simon teaches in the graduate program of the Department of Sociology and Equity Studies (SESE) and is supervising theses and dissertations of students across several departments at OISE/UT

Research Grants and Contracts

Over the last ten years Simon's funded research has addressed the development of historical consciousness in relation to events of mass systemic violence, particulary the genocide of European Jewry, the forced relocation of indigenous communities in Canada, and mass murders in Canada known as the Montreal Massacre. His current project is exploring questions of historical memory in the context of a new museum exhibition drawing on testamentary materials from the Lodz Ghetto.
