Dr. McDougall is an associate professor of Mathematics education at OISE/UT. Dr. McDougall teaches in both pre-service teacher education and graduate programs. His graduate courses include “Mathematics in Elementary Schools“ and “Computers in the Curriculums.” In addition, he also teaches in the Master of Teaching program. His main research focus is in the area of elementary school teachers’ change in the teaching of mathematics, and the use of technology in middle school mathematics classrooms. He is conducting research on how teachers and administrators improve mathematics education within elementary schools. He is also investigating student understanding of mathematics in middle schools. He is a member of the Kenner Collegiate and Vocational Institute Alumni Hall of Fame, 2001.
Dr. McDougall's recent large-scale funded research was entitled “Mathematical Maps” sponsored by Nelson Thompson Publishing (2002-2004). In previous years, Dr. McDougall received a large grant from Ministry of Education and Training to conduct his research “Impact Math implementation strategy for the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum, Grade 7 & 8.
