Ontario Alpha Delta Kappa
The Diane MacSavaney Scholarship Award 2012
Alpha Delta Kappa is an International Honorary Organization of Women Educators Dedicated to Educational Excellence, Altruism and World Understanding.
This scholarship in the amount of $5,000.00 and was established by Colin MacSavaney in memory of his beloved wife Diane MacSavaney, RHO Chapter of Ontario Alpha Delta Kappa. Diane was a role model and a dedicated teaching professional. Her accomplishments included: Ontario President, International Vice-President of the North Central Region and International Chaplain of Alpha Delta Kappa.
Ontario Alpha Delta Kappa will grant one annual scholarship to a student enrolled in their final year and will obtain their teacher’s qualifications in the spring of 2013. The value of the scholarship is $5,000.00. Preference will be given to a female student who is committed to pursuing a career in education, demonstrates the qualities of an educational leader and exemplifies the goals of Alpha Delta Kappa, namely educational excellence, altruism and world understanding.

Your complete application package will be reviewed and evaluated by the Ontario Alpha Delta Kappa Excellence in Education Committee. The Excellence in Education Committee will select a recipient by November 30, 2012 from the applicants who are currently enrolled in their final year of the Ontario Teacher’s Qualifications Program. The successful recipient will be notified on or by December 31, 2013.

ETFO Bursary—Aboriginal Women in Education Bursary - Womens' Program (open to non ETFo members)
ETFO offers this bursary annually to Aboriginal women who are entering a publicly funded faculty of education, or ETFO Aboriginal women members who are taking a qualification/upgrading course from a publicly funded university/institution. Up to four bursaries of $1,250 and a certificiate of recognition may be granted. This award is not intended to support a master's or doctorate program.
ETFO Bursary—Bev Saskoley Anti-Racist Scholarship
This scholarship may be offered to an active ETFO member pursuing studies at the graduate level in the area of anti-racist equity education at a publicly funded university/institution. One award of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
ETFO Bursary—Bev Saskoley Anti-Racist Scholarship - Women's Program
This scholarship may be offered to an active ETFO female member pursuing studies a the graduate level in the area of anti-racist equity education at a publicly funded university/institution. One award of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
ETFO Bursary—ETFO Member Bursaries
Bursaries are offered annually to members who are entering a faculty of education, or who are taking a qualification/upgrading course at a publicly funded university/institution. Up to four bursaries of $1,250 and a certficate of recognition may be granted. This award is not intended to support a master's or doctorate program.
ETFO Bursaries (for sons and daughters of ETFO Members)
Bursaries are offered annually to a son or daughter of an active ETFO member entering a faculty of education at a publicly funded university/institution. Up to twelve bursaries of $500 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
ETFO Bursaries (open to non ETFO Members)
Bursaries are offered annually to members of a designated group who are entering a faculty of education at a publicly funded university/institution or ETFO members of a designated group who are taking a qualification/upgrading course at a publicly funded university/institution. Up to four bursaries of $!,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted. This award is not intended to support a master's or doctorate program.

Bursaries are offered annually to female members of designated groups who are entering a Faculty of Education at a publicly funded university/institution or female ETFO members of designated groups who are taking a qualifications/upgrading course at a publicly funded university/instition. Up to four bursaries of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted. This award is not intended to support a master's or doctorate program.
ETFO Master's Scholarship
This scholarship may be offered to active ETFO members to study at the master's level at a publicly funded university/institution. Up to four awards of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
ETFO Master's Scholarship—Women's Program
This scholarship may be offered to active ETFO women members to study at the master's level at a publicly funded university/institution. Up to four awards of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
ETFO Women's Studies Scholarship
This scholarship may be offered to active ETFO members for graduate work in women's studies at a publicly funded university/institution. One scholarship of $1,250 and a certificate of recognition may be granted.
Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship for Excellence in Teacher Education
The Ontario College of Teachers' Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s second registrar. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.
Teacher candidates must study at a faculty of education in Ontario to apply for the Atkinson Scholarship. They must be in a consecutive program or going into their final year in a concurrent program. Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education.

OSSTF/FEESO Faculty of Education Award: The H.W. Bryan Memorial Award of Honour
OSSTF/FEESO Faculty of Education Award: The H.W. Bryan Memorial Award of Honour is valued at $1000 annually. It is awarded to the graduating Intermediate/Senior or Technological Studies Teacher Candidate who applies for the award and who in the opinion of his/her Faculty of Education's Awards Committee has shown a clear understanding and empathy for the values of unionism, is attempting to secure a job with a public secondary board, and who best exemplifies the criteria listed below.
The Teacher Candidate to be selected for the OSSTF/FEESO Faculty of Education Award (listed in order of importance, # 1 being most important)
- has demonstrated political or social activism that promotes the professional nature of teaching.
- is an advocate for unionism and related values
- has shown leadership by supporting and advocating for fellow Teacher Candidates.
- has demonstrated a high degree of professional competence.
- is attempting to secure a teaching position that would make her or him an OSSTF/FESSO member.
Teacher Candidates must apply for the award using the OSSTF/FEESO Faculty of Education Award: The H.W. Bryan Memorial Award of Honour Application Form. The form is included in the Federation Day kit distributed to all Intermediate-Senior and Technological Studies students at the OSSTF Federation Day presentation at each faculty or can be downloaded here once available. The form must be submitted to OISE Student Services (attention Mary MacDonell) by Friday, April 13, 2012.

Phi Delta Kappa, Toronto Chapter Awards:
Jackman Award
The Jackman Award was established by the Toronto Chapter to honour its founding president Henry Jackman, who modelled lifelong dedication to education and a deep concern for the individual student. It is open to students of education at all levels, including graduate students of education, enrolled in an Ontario educational institution. The winning entry at the chapter level will receive $500 and a one-year membership in PDK.The deadline for the Jackman Award is Monday, March 4, 2013.

Susan Seidman Excellence in Student Teaching Award
The Susan Seidman Excellence in Student Teaching* is open to students in an undergraduate education programme with a student teaching component. Undergraduate education majors engaged in student teaching during the summer, fall and spring of the current year are eligible.
The winning essay at the Chapter level will be entered in PDK International's Prospective Educator Award process. Chapter winners will receive a cheque for $500 and a Professional membership in PDK. The Chapter winner will be sent to the International level where it will be eligible for an award of up to US$1000.

Mico Alumni Association (Ontario, Canada Chapter) Teacher Candidate Scholarship
Eligibility: Students of Jamaican anchestry, eligible to work in Canada, who show financial need.
Applicants for the Mico Alumni Association (MAA) teacher Candidate Scholarship should submit a personal statement in which you:
(a) relate how your community service, particularly in urban, multicultural communities, has shaped your decision to become a teacher;
(b) state in one or two short paragraphs, your views on diversity and equity in education;
(c) explain how legitimate, unmet financial needs may have restricted your teacher education opportunities and how the MAA scholarship will alleviate some of these needs.
Referees:
Please submit the names, addresses, phone numbers of two referees, one of whom would know about your community involvement and the other a course instructor in the teacher education program in which you are enrolled.

The Miyumi Sasaki Education Fund
Miyumi Sasaki was an ardent advocate for social justice and equity in education and in the larger community. She taught in inner-city Toronto schools for many years, and in the three years before her untimely death in March of 2007, she was the course director of a highly acclaimed urban teacher education program located in Regent Park. She is deeply missed by her family and many friends and colleagues. In memory of her devotion to education, a scholarship fund has been created in her name, dedicated to student teachers who plan to make their own contribution to urban education.
Eligibility for the Scholarship Fund: to be awarded to one or more undergraduate initial teacher education student(s) on the basis of financial need, a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity, and an expressed intent to teach in an inner city neighbourhood. Preference will be given to applicants who have been influenced by, and/or who have a connection to, an inner city community.
Application process: Students must submit a one to two page letter of application along with two reference letters to the Centre for Urban Schooling Miyumi Sasaki Inner City Scholarship in Initial Teacher Education Committee. The application letter and references should be sent by e-mail, to Jeff Kugler, Executive Director, Centre for Urban Schooling at: jeffrey.kugler@utoronto.ca This year there will be two recipients, one elementary teacher candidate from the Inner City Option and one secondary teacher candidate from the Teaching and Learning for Change in Urban Schools Cohort . Each recipient will receive an award of $575.00.
