Environmental and Sustainability Education at OISE
The Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE) Infusion Initiative aims to broaden and deepen support for OISE’s institutional goal of social and ecological Responsibilityand help to embed ESE into all learning programs at OISE. It provides a nexus for ESE-related groups at OISE to share information, develop events and programs, and build a stronger presence to achieve their common goal of creating a culture of sustainability in the institution and its partner communities. A range of events, talks, and sustainability projects will be happening throughout the year; students are encouraged to join the Greening OISE student group or the ESE Grad Student Group to learn more about this important area of education. ♦ Addressing the Questions and Concerns of LGBTI2SQ Teacher Candidates
Are you an OISE Teacher Candidate?
Do you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trangendered, intersexed, 2-spirited, queer or questioning?
Beginning October 17, 2012, there will be a series of meetings to address many of the questions and concerns that LGBTI2SQ teacher candidates may have. These meetings are meant to provide a positive and affirming space to discuss issues that are pertinent to LGBTI2SQ educators.
Should I come out?
How do I come out?
Should my students know?
How will my principal react?
What will the community say?
How do I navigate various school systems as a queer person?
What do I do if I experience harassment?
Although there are no clear-cut answers to these questions, we can learn a lot from the experiences and perspectives of other educators like you.
When: October 17th, 20112
Where:Room 11-164 Time: 4:30 pm– 5:45 p.m.

We are pleased to introduce the Future Teachers Initiative. The Future Teachers initiative is an outreach program at OISE that encourages high school students, particularly from underrepresented groups to become teachers. The aim of the Future Teachers Initiative is to:
Promote equity in the teaching profession;
Encourage underrepresented youth to consider teaching as a career;
Create awareness of community and societal needs; and
Provide opportunities for teacher candidates to grow and develop as professionals and role models.
Teacher candidates will be invited at a later date to participate in the Future Teachers' Initiative as part of their internship requirement at OISE.
