health and dental plan

All full-time undergraduate students attending the University of Toronto have access to health and dental plans through Green Shield Canada.  These services are incorporated into your tuition amount at the beginning of the year.

OPTING OUT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE COVERAGE
You may opt-out of the Health portion and receive a refund of the fees charged to you, if you are covered by another comparable plan. Anyone may request a refund of the Dental portion. You must apply during the periods below. You can only apply at the beginning of the first term you are eligible for (e.g. If you start in January, you can apply in January, but if you start in September you can't apply in January). Complete an electronic opt-out form by clicking the link at the bottom of this page or going to www.studentplans.ca (scroll down to University of Toronto and select University of Toronto Students' Union) or by clicking the link below. The form is also available for download from our website or in our offices. You should receive a cheque in March. If you do not receive your cheque contact the Health & Dental Plan Coordinator at health@utsu.ca or (416) 978-4911 ext. 227. If leaving a message spell your name and give your student number.

Important Note: You are required to provide proof of alternative coverage (e.g., the name of the insurer, and your policy number), under a plan other than OHIP or UHIP. Check the expiry date of your alternative coverage. Once you have left the plan(s), you may not rejoin until next September. For exceptions contact the SAC/U.T.S.U. Executive Committee.

We send opt-out refund cheques in or around March to the address on file with ROSI. Please ensure your address is up to date. Cheques that are not redeemed after fifteen (15) months from the date of being first issued will not be re-issued and shall be deemed forfeited by the payee.

Aboriginal Students: Many aboriginal students have coverage through Federal Government funding. Those who do may apply for an opt-out refund. See above.

International Students: Like domestic students, international students are covered by the SAC/U.T.S.U. plans. The plans pay for things not covered by your basic UHIP plan. Get your UHIP card and information at the International Student Centre, (416) 978-0290.

Located at 214 College Street in the Koffler Student Services Centre, the University of Toronto Health Services offers a wide-range of health services.  For more information please visit the Health Services website.

PHYSCIAL ACTIVITY CENTRES

Full-time students with a valid student card can visit the Hart House gym or the Athletic Centre free-of-charge to use the gym facilities, swim, or participate in fitness classes and intra-mural sports teams.
