OISE STU EXECUTIVE

INTRODUCING THE 2012-2013 STU EXECUTIVE

The executive team will be planning events, activities, athletics, and opportunities for students to engage with the community throughout the year. We welcome your suggestions, ideas, advice and input on how the STU can serve the students of OISE. Feel free to stop by our office (room 5-199) or send us an an email to stu.oise@utoronto.ca.

Hi everyone, my name’s Billy Noiles and I am this year’s STU President. I’m originally from the East coast but most recently spent 7 years going to school in Montreal before starting here at OISE. I’m part of the intermediate/senior section, SP3 cohort (global citizenship and sustainable development), and my teachables are general science and biology. I’m thrilled to be part of this year’s STU, and my role is pretty simple: support the rest of the executive members and be a voice for the students of OISE. So if you have an idea, suggestion, question, or just want to chat please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Email me, come by during office hours, or stop me in the halls- I couldn’t be more sincere in saying that I’d love to meet you. Again, if there’s anything I can do to make your year better let me know!President: Billy Noiles

Hi there, my name is Scott Kittredge and I'm really excited to be your Treasurer for 2012/2013. I've been working in Corporate Finance for the last 12 years. My favourite part of my previous role was teaching people and helping them reach their potential. I am the proud father of two young boys and love children, so it didn't take long before I realized teaching was the perfect vocation for me. For all of those reasons I can't wait to get into the classroom and start working. I also look forward to hearing from you and understanding any questions you have.

Hi! I'm Jason, one of your Athletics Coordinators. I'm very exicted to have this opportunity to get OISE students involved in athletics. Whether you're "athletic" or not, I know that we can offer you some amazing events that will allow you to stay active, meet new people, relieve some stress and most importantly, have fun. As for myself, I play almost every sport including tennis, squash, volleyball, baskeyball and soccer. I studied Business at Western where I not only participated in intramural sports, but I also organized them for an entire residence. I am now in the SP3 (Global Citizenship) cohort for I/S with Math and Business as my teachables. I'm looking forward to a great year with all of you and if you have any athletics-related questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Events Coordinator: Miriam Balsam

miriambalsam@gmail.com

Hello! My name is Miriam and I’m one of your events co-ordinators for the year! I’m the J/I Midtown Option and my teachable is drama. After completing my undergrad in Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson, I took a few years off to work and live overseas in London where I studied singing and poured ales and lagers in a Victorian pub just down the street from Abbey Road. And now I'm happy to be here at OISE, in my first ever student council position! One of my favourite things about being back in school is having the opportunity to meet new people and hear their stories! Social events are a great way to connect with each other, share our OISE experiences and of course, relax and have a good time! Everyone tells me that this year is going to fly by, so let's get to know each other while we have the chance. We’d love to hear what events would excite you and make you happy! So if you have any ideas, please email Serothy or myself. Looking forward to meeting you all.

external

External Coordinator: Yasir Yousif

yasir.yousif@mail.utoronto.ca

My name is Yasir Yousif and I am the STU’s external coordinator. I have joined OISE, after graduating from the Arts and Science program in Human Biology at University of Toronto. I am currently a self-employed ESL instructor. My post as an ESL instructor has given me a proven excellent command of English, as I have taught grammatical concepts and writing skills to non-native speakers of English. I also work as a freelance translator, and have assisted in editing various governmental reports and manuscripts for proper grammar and referencing prior to sending them to different offices for further review and publication.  My undergraduate school education has given me valuable experience in research and report writing, as I was required to write research essays, data analysis and abstracts as part of my course work. My ample experience as a freelance translator and currently as an ESL-instructor has given me strong interpersonal and communication skills and relevant experience in the education sector. Furthermore, it has also given me first-hand knowledge in the current needs and demands of teachers and students alike. This year, I am looking forward to serving students at OISE by being a liaison between OISE’s STU and UT student union, and hopefully we as executives can bring the best results to you.
