Teaching Emphasis: environmental sustainability and social justice; school policy; social diversity; equity; teacher education; teacher activism, and democratic citizenship.

Terezia is OISE’s Senior Lecturer in Social Diversity in Schooling, and was the Institute’s first Policy Advisor on Equity. She is an active member of the University of Toronto Faculty Association where she recently served on its bargaining team and as the Chair of its Teaching Stream Committee. Previously, Terezia taught History, Social Sciences, ESL, and Media Studies in inner-city Toronto high schools, and was the Head of History and Contemporary Studies at Central Technical School, as well as the head of the Toronto District School Board’s Equity Department.

For the past twenty years, Terezia has worked closely with student, community, and labour groups to advocate for equitable and excellent publicly funded education. This commitment motivated her to help found OISE’s elementary ‘inner city’ cohort, its annual conference on educational activism, a course for teacher candidates on activism for socio-economic and environmental justice, and a new SESE M.Ed cohort in Environmental Sustainability and Social Justice. Terezia was also the recipient of a 2003 teaching Excellence Award from OISE’s Student Teacher's Union.

Terezia is the co-founder of a new public alternative elementary school near Dufferin and Queen (in west Toronto) dedicated to social justice, environmental sustainability, and a strong commitment to active involvement in the local community. Her six year-old son, Matthew, was part of The Grove Community School’s inaugural class in September 2009.

Terezia is also the author or co-author of several policy and curriculum texts focusing on equity, anti-classism, and democratic citizenship, including the equity policies of the Toronto District School Board, the University of Toronto, and OISE, as well as Challenging Class Bias, Talking Union, and Citizenship: Issues and Action.
