Postdoctoral Fellow Position – Engineering Leadership in the Workplace: Implications for a New Engineering Education
The Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead) within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications from individuals with a cross-disciplinary background in social sciences, education, management, human resources or related fields with interests in leadership research, education and development for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) position.
The PDF will be part of a team undertaking a two-year mixed-methods research project. The Engineering Leadership Project (ELP) will identify key elements of successful leadership by engineers in engineering-intensive enterprises, and consequently design curricula to develop and empower engineering students and practitioners and better prepare engineering students for the workplace. The ELP will build a Community of Practice linking employers and educators to advance the transformation of engineering education and the profession.
The PDF will assist the Project Lead and Director of Research to collect and analyze both qualitative (focus groups, one-on-one interviews) and quantitative (large-scale on-line survey) data. The PDF will have opportunity to publish research in the field of engineering leadership education, contribute to grant proposals, and advise students on multi-disciplinary projects.
The preferred candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in social sciences, education, management, human resources or related fields with interests in leadership research, education and development. In addition, some background in or familiarity with applied sciences, engineering, technology and business will be highly favorable. Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills and good communication skills are essential.

This position is a one-year contract, renewable for a second year. The salary range is $48,000 - $60,000 yearly depending on experience.
