OISE Emergency Response and Guidelines

The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) is committed to providing the safest possible environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. As members at OISE, you play a key role in ensuring we are able to do so.

The OISE Emergency Response and Guidelines is designed to help you in an emergency situation, giving you basic information on what to do and how to proceed before Campus Police Services or emergency responders arrive. This guide will not cover each and every incident that you may encounter at OISE.  It is hoped, however, that the range of emergencies presented and the steps involved will enable you to adapt and modify procedures as needed, depending on the unique nature of the emergency. Please familiarize yourself with the document and please send your suggestions and questions to oisecao@utoronto.ca.

The guideline has been developed by the OISE Safety and Security Committee whose mandate is to review and to make recommendations on safety and security issues within the framework of University-wide policies and plans. The committee members include the following:

  • Tanya Titchkosky, Faculty, SJE;
  • Bonnie Burstow, Faculty, LHAE;
  • Christina Mitas, President, Graduate Student Association;
  • Eun Choi, Treasurer, Student Teacher Union;
  • Frank Andricciola, Co-Chair OISE Joint Health and Safety Committee and Program Assistant CPL;
  • Bessie Giannikos, Finance Officer, CTL;
  • Lara Cartmale: Director, ADRII;
  • Diane Giang, Business Officer, APHD;
  • Elizabeth Broccoli, Manager, OISE Facilities and Services;
  • Helen Huang, CAO (Chair)
