CAN-D Workshop on the Integration of Refugee
In April 2019, our lab worked in collaboration with the department of Applied Psychology and Human Development (APHD) and the Center for Educational Research on Languages and Literacies (CERLL) to host the three-day CAN-D Workshop on the Integration of Refugees. This workshop provided various researchers from Germany and Canada the opportunity to network and present their findings. Topics covered at the workshop included teacher education, longitudinal studies, mental health and wellbeing, language and literacy development, language and math education, and policy/structural factors. At the end of each day, researchers participated in discussions to talk about the implications and suggestions from our findings. In the future, we hope we can use these experiences to further supplement the refugee and newcomer experience.
In collaboration with our German partners, Leibniz Association and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung).
The workshop was funded by the Child and Youth Refugee Research Coalition (CYRRC).
Congratulations!
As the academic year comes to a close, two of our esteemed lab members are moving forward to start brand new chapters. We extend our warm congratulations to Poh Wee and Nadia on the completion of their doctoral defenses! We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
