CIDEC Research and Development Database Terms of Use

Purpose

Only members of the Comparative, International and Development Education Centre (CIDEC) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE) can contribute to this database.

CIDEC reserves the right to manage this research and development database according to its own policies, making alterations, changes in the terms of service, or discontinuing the site or any of its parts.

The growth of the database depends on its contributors. At times, the database may have an abundance of certain types of research from a particular geographical region, or on certain comparative and international education topics. The breadth and range of topics included in database does not imply any judgment by CIDEC. It is simply a reflection of the organic nature of this collaborative tool.

Members' Participation

CIDEC reserves the right to remove materials and deny access to members who do not follow copyright laws; whose research does not respect or preserve the dignity of others; or uses the database for commercial purposes.

In particular, CIDEC members should keep in mind:

  • The privacy and dignity of others when uploading documents into this database;
  • That materials that are defamatory, obscene, or that violate the rights and dignity of others will be removed and your contribution status revoked;
  • Intellectual property laws;
  • Use of CIDEC R&D database materials for commercial purposes will jeopardize your contributor status.

Copyright

Rights to materials are assumed to belong to those who upload them. The process of uploading articles gives permission for these documents to be reproduced, referenced, and made public.

If you are unsure about the policy of the journal that published your work, please check out the SHERPA website, which publishes "default" policies of hundreds of academic journals. If the journal which published your work is not on this list, please contact the journal directly. You may wish to negotiate with journals to have open access or creative commons licenses for their work.

To learn about journals that have open access policies, visit the Directory of Open Access Journals. Some of comparative education journals with open access policies include: Current Issues in Comparative Education, International Education Journal and Journal of Education for International Development.

Members who share or distribute material into the CIDEC R&D Database must respect copyright laws in all the countries in which they work. Please refer to copyright laws in Canada and the United States. Also, please see the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada guidelines for copyright.
