The CIHE Speaker Series supports the dissemination of higher education research and scholarship, and brings together a community of higher education experts, practitioners, and graduate students throughout the academic year. 

CIHE Speaker Series events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Seertat Kaur Gill Has obtained her Ph.D. in Higher Education Management and Policy from India. Her main areas of research include access and quality issues in higher education, sustainability in education, leadership and scale development. Her works have been published in international academic journals such as the Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Educational Management and Economic and Political Weekly. She is also affiliated with the Program for Research on Private Higher Education based in State University of New York, Albany, and is currently working as an RA with Dr. Elizabeth Buckner at OISE. She has authored the book “One Amazing Sikh At a Time” with the hope of contributing towards diversity and inclusiveness in the world of children’s literature.

Join us for an engaging conversation with Dr. Neivin Shalabi as she discusses how we use academic service-learning on facilitating international students’ transitions to Canadian life and academia. International students are increasing rapidly in Canada. They bring considerable assets to their host institutions. However, they encounter significant challenges. Join Dr. Neivin Shalabi as she reports on the findings of a qualitative study that explored the impact of participating in academic service-learning on facilitating international students’ transitions to Canadian life and academia. The findings spark ideas for faculty and administrators to prepare optimum learning experiences for this student body.
