Decolonizing Pedagogies:  Teacher Reference Book

From the booklet, "This booklet can help teachers, parents and learning-community members explore: What does “decolonizing pedagogies” mean? Decolonizing the Lens of Power: Indigenous Films in North America 

From the book, "This is the first book that comprehensively examines Indigenous filmmaking in North America, as it analyzes in detail a variety of representative films by Canadian and US-American Indigenous filmmakers: two films that contextualize the oral tradition, three short films, and four dramatic films. The book explores how members of colonized groups use the medium of film as a means for cultural and political expression and thus enter the dominant colonial film discourse and create an answering discourse."

Ontario College of Teachers - Aboriginal Teaching and Teacher Education

From the report, "At the beginning of 2008, the Ontario College of Teachers joined with the Ministry of Education’s Aboriginal Education Office to examine Aboriginal teaching and Aboriginal teacher education in Ontario. This partnership was envisioned in the goals outlined in the Ontario First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Policy Framework released in January 2007.

The College believes that support for Aboriginal student success must come from their teachers who require appropriate knowledge and resources to encourage this success. When teachers are better prepared to work with Aboriginal students in the classroom and beyond, the benefits to the students themselves flow forth.

Knowledge of First Nations, Métis and Inuit histories, and the diversity of these distinct cultures, is necessary to understand the lens through which students and parents view the education system. Knowledge of Aboriginal perspectives and approaches to learning are equally important to help ensure Ontario’s teachers are prepared to teach Aboriginal students and in Aboriginal communities. Further, understanding contemporary and traditional First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, histories and perspectives help teachers increase knowledge among non-Aboriginal students."

From the website:  "A new Aboriginal education strategy is currently being developed by CMEC which will see ministers continuing their work together on pan-Canadian data collection and research and on teacher training. CMEC will also be making further efforts to facilitate information sharing among key Aboriginal education stakeholders and will continue to engage with the federal government on Aboriginal education issues".

University of Saskatchewan Iportal -  Indigenous Studies Portal Research Tool

From the website, "The Indigenous Studies Portal (iPortal) connects faculty, students, researchers and members of the community with electronic resources: books, articles, theses, documents, photographs, archival resources, maps, etc. The vision of the Indigenous Studies Portal is to provide one place to look to find resources for Indigenous studies. This is a major undertaking and we have only just begun. The Indigenous Studies Portal is an initiative of the University of Saskatchewan Library. As of January, 2011, the iPortal has more than 25,000 records, including the Our Legacy archival records recently harvested. This includes photos, anthropological field notes, diaries, correspondence and other textual documents. The iPortal also links to Indigenous programs and events at the University of Saskatchewan. In addition, it offers specialized tools for teaching and scholarship.

First Peoples New Directions in Indigenous Studies

From the website, "First Peoples: New Directions in Indigenous Studies is celebrating the culmination of a successful five-year publishing collaboration. Over the course of the initiative, our publishing partners-the University of Arizona Press, the University of Minnesota Press, the University of North Carolina Press, and Oregon State University Press-have published more than 50 books that exemplify cutting edge Native American and Indigenous studies scholarship.
