Item Reviewed: Newspaper and Its Integrative Function

Description: None

A super way to get involved in 1) reading the newspaper 2) taking an interest in things that are happening in their worlds that they would otherwise not be exposed to.

I would suggest being extremely sensitive when it comes to newpaper articles. For example, there are things that are happening in different parts of the world, that I can not even get my head around, so for some students these issues may be difficult to discuss. At the other end, there will probably be students that feel very strongly about certain issues, and the last thing that I would want in my class is to have students who have come from "opposing" countries that now are hostile to each other.

One way to solve this problem is for the teacher to select a number of articles and have the students choose from these articles instead of just handing out newspapers and letting the students decide on their articles.
