CLSEW in collaboration with the Comparative, International and Development Education Centre (CIDEC) invite you to a book presentation & conversation with Dr. Ana Inés Heras (UNSAM/CONICET, Argentina and Dr. Hye-Su Kuk (CLSEW, UofT, Canada).

Dr. Ana Heras will discuss key topics involved in the work she conducted over eight years with colleagues from New York and Buenos Aires on the theme of “third spaces for learning”. Dr. Heras’ research into third spaces as learning spaces has unfolded in a long term process of co-elaboraton with several different community organizations and workers`cooperatives. In her talk, Dr. Heras will specifically address how this type of co-elaborative research also reaffirms the importance of pre-figuring post-capitalist practices, discourses and meaning-making processes.

Dr. Heras’ talk will include cases and artifacts documented over time in different fields of practice, including community mental health, rural and urban liberatory education, and social-solidarity economies. During her presentation she will also reflect on the possibilities and challenges faced when working across two languages (Spanish and English), and the processes involved in publishing in more than one (hegemonic) language.

Following, Dr. Hye-Su Kuk will discuss her own work on the concept of Third Spaces, dialoguing with the author on similarities and differences.

This event is framed as an open conversation, moving from an initial dialogue into a co-elaborative and more workshop-like moment. After hearing from Dr. Heras and Dr. Kuk, participants will be invited to reflect on questions posed in the talk, and to also raise their own questions, comments and perspectives in an open dialogue.
