2026 Master of Teaching Research Conference (MTRC)
The 2026 Master of Teaching Research Conference (MTRC) will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at OISE, University of Toronto. This annual event continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Master of Teaching (MT) program, offering a dynamic platform for research dissemination, professional growth, and academic engagement among our future teacher candidates and the broader MT community.
The conference will commence with a Welcome Address from OISE and CTL Leadership, followed by a Keynote Address by Athena Tassis, MT alum and PhD candidate at OISE, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Educational Technology, and Instructional Design. The program will feature Year 2 students presenting their research papers during morning and afternoon sessions, while Year 1 students will participate in the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, showcasing their emerging inquiries. The event will conclude with a Closing Ceremony and Reception for Year 2 students in the OISE Library.
We look forward to welcoming the MT community as we continue to support and celebrate the research contributions of our teacher candidates.

3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition originally developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. At the Master of Teaching Research Conference, Year 1 Master of Teaching students, nominated by their cohorts, will participate in the 3MT Competition and present their research in just three minutes using a single static PowerPoint slide. Their audience will consist of their Year 1 peers.
A Panel of Judges will determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the 3MT. Additionally, the Cohort Spirit Award will be presented to the cohort that demonstrates the most team spirit.

Frequently Asked Questions and Helpful Information
For Year 2 Master of Teaching students presenting their research papers at either the morning or afternoon sessions, the deadline to submit your presentation is Monday, February 9, 2026.
Instructions on how to submit your research presentation:
- Visit the MTRC Presentation Submissions Page on the CTL Student Portal
- Login with your UofT credentials to access the submissions page
- Select either the morning sessions (1-30) or afternoon sessions (31-62)
- Locate the submission form associated with your session
- Click on the 'Presentation Submission Form' button
- Once on the form, upload your presentation and hit 'Submit'
It’s completely normal to feel anxious about presenting, especially in a formal setting. Many students experience similar feelings, and the good news is that there are ways to prepare and build confidence. Movement involved
Students will attend events in the OISE Auditorium (Ground Floor) and in various rooms across OISE (252 Bloor Street W), The Faculty of Social Work (246 Bloor Street W) or UTS (371 Bloor Street W) for the research paper sessions. Year 2 students are invited to attend the closing reception in the OISE Library. Session locations are available on the conference program. If you require accommodations for access to any of the scheduled events, please indicate this on your registration form.
Participation Expectations
Participants are expected to attend in person and to present at their specified sessions.
Reserved Seating
Reserved seating in the OISE Auditorium or OISE Library can be provided upon request.

Privacy
Events at the 2026 MT Research Conference will take place in areas where photography, audio, and video recording may occur. Captured media may be used for educational, promotional, and marketing purposes. If you prefer not to be recorded, please speak with a CTL staff member upon arrival.
Accessible Building Entrances
Surface-Level Entrance (Bloor Street West)
The main entrance to OISE is on the west side of the building, beneath the large OISE sign, and is fully accessible. A ramp with a handrail, located to the right of the steps, leads to a walkway that brings you to the main doors. There are push buttons to open both sets of doors for easy access.
TTC Subway/Underground Entrance
OISE is located above the St. George TTC subway station, with direct access from the Bedford Road exit. The station features elevators connecting the platform to the concourse level. From the concourse, a ramp leads to an accessible door with push buttons, providing entry into OISE. Once inside, elevators are available on the left for access to all floors.

Elevators
All floors of the OISE building are accessible via the central elevator system.
Fire Safety: In the event of a fire alarm, elevators will be temporarily out of service. If you need assistance exiting the building, please contact Campus Safety at 416-978-2222. Emergency phones are located in each elevator lobby. Fire alarms are both visual and audible, with flashing lights and ringing bells.
