Nomination-Based Award Categories
The following awards categories have been established to honour our excellent administrative staff members:
Dr. Claire Alleyne Staff Excellence Award
The Dr. Claire Alleyne Staff Excellence Award was established in 2007-2008, in recognition of Dr. Alleyne's retirement after more than 35 years of exemplary service at OISE, as well as her enormous dedication to and respect for administrative staff.
Claire Alleyne began her career at the University of Toronto more than 35 years ago. She was Registrar at FEUT from 1988 to 1996 and Registrar at OISE from 1996 until 2009. Throughout her career, Claire modelled a strong commitment to excellence and innovation in serving the needs of students and faculty. This was recognized in 1994 when she was awarded the Chancellor's Award of Excellence at the University of Toronto.
Claire has always believed that administrative staff play a key role in the work of the university and should be recognized for their enormous contributions to our community. For this reason she was an early advocate for the establishment of the OISE Staff Excellence Award.
Established in 2007-2008, the Dr. Claire Alleyne Staff Excellence Award celebrates the contributions of a staff member who has continually demonstrated deep commitment to excellence and outstanding service, and whose actions have created a positive and lasting impact on their department/unit, colleagues, faculty, students and alumni, and have contributed to furthering OISE's mission. This award is given to a staff member who has been at OISE for minimum of 3 years.
The Leadership Award celebrates the achievements of a staff member who has continually demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities such as promoting community building; encouraging a high level of commitment from others when taking on new initiatives; motivating the team to achieve outstanding results; actively sharing responsibilities and authority, information and credit when working towards the achievement of a goal; and setting and maintaining high professional standards. This award is given to a staff member who has been at OISE for minimum of 2 years.
The Innovation Award recognizes staff, individually or as a team, who have developed and implemented a creative solution that increases the productivity of work, and enhances the value added to research, teaching and the administrative process at OISE. For example, improvement or increase in efficiency, productivity, cost savings, environmental or health and well-being initiatives, enhancement of the culture and climate of the Institute will be considered. Special consideration will be given to collaborative projects that span across the various departments/units.
Cultivating Community Award
The Cultivating Community Award was established in 2021 to celebrate the extraordinary achievements and efforts of OISE’s Staff and Faculty in service of their community (OISE or External). This award is to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in their service to create and foster a community of care and collegiality at the Institute. The award is open to nominations of all staff and faculty either individually or as a group, as chosen by the awards committee.
