Master of Education (MEd) - Educational Leadership and Policy

2021 Online/Hybrid Cohort

The Educational Leadership and Policy Program is excited to offer the 2021 Master of Education Online/Hybrid cohort. Designed to increase accessibility for students living in Ontario and beyond, this cohort allows students to earn an MEd degree entirely or partially online. Students complete one course per term and move through the program as a group. 

This program is for those interested in exploring questions of leadership, policy, change and social diversity in schools, and linking theory to practice in their own work environments. It equips practitioners with the knowledge and skills to engage in – and critique – approaches to leadership and policy in the elementary and secondary school system.  

The academic rigour and practical utility of this program are enhanced by an approach that is designed for an online learning community. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn with others located in a wide variety of contexts.

The 2021 cohort begins September 2021 and ends August 2024.

  • 10 half-courses in total
  • 6 half-courses are offered in set terms for cohort members.
  • 4 half-courses are open electives, chosen by each student individually; these can be taken online or in class.
  • There is no thesis or major research paper requirements; students wishing to go on to doctoral work should discuss their options with the Program Coordinator.

The following are annual tuition fees for 2020-2021. These figures include all non-tuition related fees. 

  • Domestic full-time students: $11,718.65
  • Domestic part-time students: $3,916.13
  • International full-time students: $40,098.65
  • Please note: Master's programs at OISE have minimum degree fees.

Program-specific information

Minimum admission requirements

  • An appropriate bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline with a grade equivalent to a University of Toronto mid-B or better in the final year. 

Required supporting documents  

  • Transcript(s) from each post-secondary institution attended
  • Résumé
  • Two letters of reference. Whenever possible, one should be written by an educational professional for whom the applicant has worked. The second should be by a referee who can attest to the applicant's academic ability.
  • Statement of Intent.
  • Note: It is essential that applicants to the Online/Hybrid Cohort state this interest in their Statement of Intent. 


The main application deadline is November 16, 2020. To guarantee consideration for admission, applicants should submit their application and supporting documents by this date 

After November 16, admission may remain open. Nonetheless, applicants are encouraged to apply by November 16. Doing so increases the chance of acceptance. For the most up-to-date information on application deadlines, visit OISE Admissions
