Research Overview

My research explores the interaction between global dynamics, domestic policies, and school change. I employ political science and sociology approaches along with comparative methods to understand changes in education governance, both globally and domestically, and their effects on the operation of schools and student learning. My studies focus on Latin American countries and I am also interested in developing countries in general. Particular areas of research include decentralization, privatization, accountability, curriculum reforms, and politics of education.

I have also participated in other policy-relevant projects including secondary education reform in Colombia (Colombian National Ministry of Education and Secretary of Education of Bogota), and career guidance for secondary and higher education students (Colombian National Ministry of Education).

I am affiliated with the Data, Equity and Policy in Education (DEPE) lab, and the collaborative specializations in Comparative, International & Development Education (CIDE) and Educational Policy (CSEP).
