Research Overview

My research broadly examines to what extent socioeconomic contexts and public policies affect inequality in higher education. My research agenda currently focuses on 1) college choice and enrollment in postsecondary education for students who have been historically and persistently underrepresented and 2) funding policies and practices affecting U.S. Minority-Serving Institutions. I use critical theoretical perspectives from sociology and public policy to conduct research using methods of causal inference and qualitative interviews.

My current research project examines how U.S. immigration policies affect the high school completion and college enrollment of Hispanic undocumented young people. In these studies, I primarily use publicly available microdata and employ quasi-experimental methods.
