Why OISE and the Higher Education program?
JesusMiracle Chiadika selected this program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education because of its strong reputation for research excellence, its commitment to advancing equity and global impact, and the opportunity it offers to engage with leading and prominent scholars in the field. The program aligns closely with her interdisciplinary interests in international relations, higher education, research, and mental health—particularly her focus on building effective systems of support for student wellbeing. She was especially drawn to the opportunity to conduct meaningful, high-impact research within a diverse community of scholars and practitioners. OISE’s emphasis on critical inquiry and social transformation has provided an ideal environment for her to deepen her research expertise and scholarly knowledge while contributing to important conversations around student mental health and wellbeing, impacts of internationalization, and educational systems.
Why I love my program/what it has done to shape my academic trajectory/research identity
JesusMiracle Chiadika deeply enjoys her program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education because of the opportunity to learn from faculty who are leading scholars in their fields, who are not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely supportive. She has appreciated the wide range of resources available to support both her academic and personal development, as well as the opportunity to learn alongside peers who bring diverse perspectives and experiences. This experience has challenged her to grow in every area—intellectually, professionally, and personally—while engaging in meaningful, impactful research that aligns with her passions and contributes to broader conversations in her field.

Professionally, JesusMiracle has worked in international education and student support services for over a decade, where she has consistently advocated for more comprehensive, culturally responsive mental health frameworks for students. This commitment also informs her academic work: She recently published a book chapter, and has presented at several academic conferences, seminars, and symposiums, including the Comparative and International Education Society and the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education, focusing on the implementation of comprehensive culturally adept mental health resources for students. She has also served as a Student Ambassador for the OISE Higher Education program, providing support with recruitment and onboarding events.
Summary of my doctoral research project and key highlights
JesusMiracle’s current research interests include a focus on the institutional dimensions of internationalization, global engagement, student well-being, and their implications for students’ educational and social experiences. Her work advances critical conversations on culturally responsive mental health frameworks, students’ wellbeing, and the institutional enactment of equity‑oriented support systems. Her dissertation, under the leadership of Professor Elizabeth Buckner, centres on examining intersections of culture and student mental health, with particular attention to how postsecondary institutions can strengthen and adapt mental health supports to better reflect the cultural realities, needs, and concerns of diverse student populations. Her scholarly inquiry is particularly concerned with how internationalization policies are enacted at the institutional level and how universities can more effectively design services, structures, and supports that promote equity, belonging, and student success. In recognition of her scholarly contributions, JesusMiracle has been awarded both the Inlight Research Fellowship and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. She has also been awarded the OISE Research Conference Presentation Grant, and the Centre of Black Studies in Education Conference Grant.

JesusMiracle Chiadika is a global-minded scholar and higher education professional whose work sits at the intersection of internationalization policy, institutional research development, and student experiences in global contexts. Her professional and academic work reflects a sustained engagement with international students and institutional stakeholders, emphasizing relationship building, collaborative leadership, and evidence‑informed program development within complex global higher education environments. She currently serves as Regional Lead, International Relations in the Office of the Vice‑President International at the University of Toronto, where she contributes to the advancement of international and cross-institutional partnerships in her work in the Africa Health Collaborative.

Her research and project work extend beyond OISE, reflecting strong global engagement and applied impact. As a Regional Lead with the Africa Health Collaborative, she advances cross-continental initiatives focused on health workforce development and systems strengthening. She has contributed to international forums such as Global Scholars Canada and presented at the International Student Crisis Symposium, addressing student wellbeing in global contexts. Her work also includes co-authorship and presentations with the African Business and Entrepreneurship Research Society (ABERS), and she continues to support cross-cultural learning, policy dialogue, and collaborative research across Africa and Canada.
