Graphic File Support

What is graphic file support?    

Graphic file support assists users with basic image management, including image resizing, conversion, and cropping.

What software do I need to work with graphic files?

Two common graphic file editors are Adobe Photoshop and GIMP. A copy of Adobe Photoshop can be obtained from The Education Commons, while GIMP can be downloaded here.

How do I resize an image?     

Using Adobe Photoshop

Using GIMP

1. Open your file
Click File > Open...

 

2. Select your file
Locate and select your file, then click Open 

 

 

3. Scale Image
Click Image > Scale Image...

 

4. Image Size
Enter new value into Width or Height, then click Scale

 

5. Save your file 
Click File > Save

6. File quality
If prompted, select the desired quality and click Save

How do I convert an image? (For example tIF > jPG)

Using Adobe Photoshop

Using GIMP

1. Open your file
Click File > Open...

 

2. Select your file
Locate and select your file, then click Open 

 

 

3. Save file
Click File > Save As...

 

4. Name file and select location
Type new name and select where to save the file

5. File type
Click Select File Type (By Extension), and select the file type

6. Other options
Depending on the file type you may be prompted to select additional details, once completed click Save

Where can I get OISE images (photos and graphics?)

To obtain OISE images, such as photos of people, classrooms, buildings, etc., or graphics, please visit the OISE ImageBank. To ensure consistent quality in web and print please follow the following web and print guidelines when using images.
