Nina Bascia,
Chair, Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education


Dr. Nina Bascia was appointed Chair of the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) for a five year term beginning July 1, 2015. Her extensive leadership service includes Associate Chair of  since 2013, Associate Chair of the former Department of Theory and Policy Studies in Education from 1998 to 2001, and Department Chair from 2002- 2006, as well as serving on countless OISE committees.

She is the founding Director of the Collaborative Program in Educational Policy. Professor Bascia is a leading scholar of educational policy as it intersects with schools as organizations, and particularly with teachers' work.

Her research emphasizes educational policy analysis and program evaluation; organizational and social context of teaching and administration; and teacher leadership and development, teacher unions and professional associations.

Her research projects include studies on the relationship between teacher unions and governments around educational reform and research on instances of teacher-driven innovation that have resulted in changes to wide-spread teacher practice and curriculum policy .

She is a prolific contributor to the literature and has published eight books as well as numerous papers and book chapters. She has considerable experience in teacher education as well as an impressive record of graduate supervision.
