Student Employment Opportunities

OISE offers students four types of employment opportunities that provide financial assistance and experience in the research and teaching fields.

Job postings can be viewed by current students using your UTORid. Students are required to have a university-issued email account on their ACORN profile.

Graduate Assistantships
(GA)


GAs are unionized positions represented by CUPE 3907.

GAs are placements for students engaged in research and/or field development projects contributing to their academic and professional development.

  • All GAs must be registered as full-time students at OISE.
  • Masters students (MA, MT, MS-CS, MEd) are eligible to hold a GA in the first 2 years of their program.
    • Students in the MA-SCCP program are eligible to hold a GA in the first 3 years of their program.
  • PhD students are eligible to hold a GA in the first 5 years of their program.
  • Flextime PHD candidates are eligible to be considered for a GA or R&D GA once during the first 5 years of their program.
  • Students holding a combination of 1) scholarships, 2) fellowships, and/or 3) OISE-arranged TA or course instructorships greater than $12,000 are not eligible for GA positions.

Tentative Summer 2018 Deadlines

Early March: Summer GA positions posted and available to students in "Group A and B"

Late March Early April: GA matching for "Group A and B" students to jobs

 

Tentative Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Deadlines

Late June: Fall-Winter GA positions posted and available to students in "Group A"

Early to Mid July: GA matching for "Group A" students to jobs

Mid-July: GA positions posted and available to students in Group B to apply

Late July: GA matching for "Group B" students to jobs

Teaching Assistantships (TA)

 

TAs are unionized positions represented by CUPE 3902.

TAs are supervised and mentored by an OISE faculty member and provided with opportunities to lecture, facilitate class discussions, organize and facilitate group work, gain experience in understanding student evaluation, supervise students in the field, and participate in student and faculty professional development events.
 
  • All TAs must be registered as full-time
  • Applicants must have a completed Master's degree
  • You will be required to submit a one-page shortened CV or resumé and a one-page statement outlining what you can bring to the position and how the position would enhance your studies.
  • Names of referees may also be included but are not required  

Tentative Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Deadlines

May: New TA jobs are posted using the TA Posting System

Early June: Supervisors/Unit Heads review, interview and rank new applicants

Mid to Late June: Successful matches of NEW TAs are made online


 

Research & Development Graduate Assistantships
(R&D GA)

R&D GAs are placements for students engaged in research and/or field development projects contributing to their academic and professional development.

  • All R&D GAs must be registered as full-time students at OISE.
