OISE’s “Distinguished Professor,” Dr. Kathleen Gallagher has teamed up with renowned playwright Andrew Kushnir and his socially conscious theatre company, Project: Humanity, to create Towards Youth – a series of original interconnected plays that explores the concept of radical hope among youth in our current times of global unrest.

It explores how young people in India, England, Taiwan, Greece, and Canada “talk back” through drama to the micro-worlds and global realities in which they live. Drawing from the steadfast belief that young people are best positioned to speak truths about their lives, Towards Youth challenges us to reconsider our assumptions about young people and the lessons they can teach us about the state of humanity and our collective futures.

The result is an epic set of plays anchored in the authentic words of youth, teachers, parents, and social workers.

Towards Youth runs from February 25 to March 16, 2019 at Streetcar's Crowsnest Theatre in Toronto. Preview tickets are $25 for three nights only, from February 25 to 27.

* Dr. Gallagher’s research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Towards Youth received support from the Canada Council for the Arts’ New Chapter Grant.
